2017 Goebel Senior Table Tennis Tournament Report-Results
Goebel Senior Table Tennis Tourney
January 11 2017, Thousand Oaks
First of all, thanks go out to Mark Williams, for running this tournament, with all the planning that goes into it. This tournament is planned out and ran, for the competitive fire and fun of table tennis. Also, thanks goes out to John Spohn, and Chuck Jaseph, for bringing the barriers to help keep things in order, with the 5 tables in the main room. And of course Tom Giles, not only played in the tournament but also took the time to take pictures and video of the tournament.
I have posted some pictures as you scroll down you will see them, but is only a handful of the pictures Tom took, and is making available to those want to see them. Tom has also made a slide show of the tournament, consisting of all pictures, with music in the back ground to sooth the slamming beast! It was a fun day, as well as exciting. The men's singles was split up according to age, and had 4 age groups, A, B, C, D. The women's division had there own group, consisting of 6 women. Each group had there own table to play on, as it was a round robin format. All 5 tables that were used, had plenty of action, and most came down to the last match! The lunch provided was top shelf, with the theme being BBQ! The lunch had tri-tip, chicken, potato salad, beans, French bread, cookies, soft drinks and water. After lunch there were a few singles to complete. Once those matches were complete , we got the doubles rolling, and they rolled. To most players surprise there wasn't much sitting during the doubles round robin. In the doubles competition there were 2 groups. This means each group could use at least two tables at a time, so it went fast, and all was completed in a timely manor! After the round robins were completed, there were 4 play-off births. There were 4 teams given seeds, and out of the 4 teams, 3 seeds made it to the play-offs. In Group B there had to be a tie breaker to determine 1st place between Tom Horne- Jimmy Amescua Team, and Max Chopra- Jim Esch team. As the doubles played out, the final ended up to be Whiddon, Munoz, against Spohn , Bunya. John Spohn and Peter Bunya, took the Gold in 4 games. Here are the full results of all age divisions and doubles.
